Lying Season (Experiment in Terror #4) by Karina Halle

Title; Lying Season
Author; Karina Halle
Series; Experiment in Terror, book four
Source; Amazon, Paid for
Format; Kindle
Publisher; Self published/Metal Blonde Books
Publication Date; December 13th 2011
DO NOT READ THE SYNOPSIS IF YOU HAVE NOT READ THE OTHER BOOKS IN THE SERIES, I WOULDN'T WANT YOU TO SPOIL ANYTHING FOR YOURSELF!

Synopsis; Amateur ghost-hunter Perry Palomino has battled ghosts, fought off skinwalkers and skirted the fine line between life and death. But can she survive bunking down in Seattle for a week with her partner (and man she secretly loves) Dex and his perfect girlfriend  Jennifer? And can she do so while being tormented by a malicious spirit from Dex’s increasingly shady past? With love and life in the balance, Perry must discover the truth among the lies or risk losing everything she's ever cared about.

Goodreads Average Rating; 4.71
My Rating; 50 stars? Is that too high a rating?
Would I recommend this book? If you've read the rest of the series then yes, if not that you need to read the other books first, but this series is amazing anyway.
Will I read anything else by this author? Everything by Karina Halle is on my to-read list or read list. She is also on my auto buy list. She is also one of my favourite authors. So, yes.

My Review; So, I know that I have not said anything about this series so far. I haven't told you that I've been reading it, I haven't written reviews for any of the other books. I totally should have, but I'm lazy and I always wanted to get right onto the next book. More so after this book than ever.

Declan Foray can be an ass, and I have trouble trusting him on occasion, though that's entirely his fault, but I still love him. Can I just have a t-shirt that reads "Declan Foray stole my heart"? Or maybe "Karina Halle stole my heart" because I fall in love with almost every character she writes. With the very obvious exception of Jenn and a few others like her. (That woman makes me seethe.

Perry however, now that woman, I love her just as much as I love Dex. Okay, so maybe "Experiment in Terror stole my heart"? It'd be like a proper internet show then, it'd have its own t-shirts that hardly anybody gets. Some people would ask me what the hell it is and then I can introduce them to this series.
More people seriously need to read this series.

I'm gushing rather than reviewing again aren't I?

This book, it is the best in the series so far. I just fell in love with the characters even more. If that's even possible. The story totally freaked me out in places. This book... That ending...

It seems I have lost the ability to form full, coherent sentences.

I finished this book in a day. On a day that I was kind of busy and had a few things to do. If that doesn't tell you how awesome this book is...I don't know what will.

We find out more about Dex and his past. We find out more about Perry and her past. We finally meet Jenn (that bitch!) And we meet other  people (that are much more awesome than Jenn) too!

Enough with the gushing, I've got a very, very late date with the next book in this series!

Karina Halle - Gushing Over Authors...

Okay, so earlier this year I read my first Karina Halle book. I had been meaning to read her Experiment in Terror series for a while, the first one had been sitting on my kindle for a few months.
The first book I read of hers was actually Sins & Needles. There was so much hype and love for this book that I had to read the synopsis, and then I had to have the book.
Sins & Needles easily got five stars from me. I didn't write a review though... Maybe I felt there were too many reviews at the time and that mine wasn't needed (although all reviews are important,) or maybe I just couldn't be bothered. I don't know.
The point is, this book, Sins & Needles, made me bump Darkhouse (Experiment in Terror, #1) up my to read list and I read it a few days later... I've never read a book quite like it. Not in its genre, or writing style... Darkhouse also got five stars from me.
As did Red Fox, which I started almost instantly after. As did Dead Sky Morning. As did Lying Season (which I just finished.)

I just, I want to squee. I feel like I've stumbled upon an amazing author and she has already made it onto my auto-buy and favourite-author lists. This woman is amazing!

I have never read any horror before this (EiT)...and wow, this certainly makes my heart beat and...it just freaks me out sometimes. Especially when I stay up to carry on reading. But this series also makes me laugh on occasion, it makes me smile, and oh gosh, I have just fallen in love with Perry and Dex.

Now, this is a big thing for me to say, what I'm about to say, but... I think that if I could only read one author's books for the rest of my life, just one author, that it could well be Karina Halle's books that I choose to read. (And that really is saying something considering how much I love some other authors, like John Green and such.)
There is just always something new with her books. There is just something about her writing.
The Experiment in Terror series just gets better the further we dive into it!

If you are looking for something new to read, or maybe looking for some free books because you're low on money lately, then I urge you to read the Experiment in Terror series. (Even if you don't have a Kindle there are some FREE apps, for your phone, computer, or tablet. I used to use the computer app before I bought myself a kindle earlier this year.)

Okay, okay, I think that might be enough gushing for now (it will never be enough!), I'm going to try and write some reviews for you to read, rather than just a post of my love for an author. Whose books I will eventually buy in paperback because owning them on my kindle is just not enough!

Series; The Elfin, book one

Format; Kindle Edition, 389 pages.
Publisher; Self Published... I think.
Publication Date; December 23rd 2012

Book Blurb:
Before tonight Cassie Tate’s biggest concerns were whether she could pass Algebra and how she was going to keep Elora, her best friend, from dressing her in a skimpy fairy costume for Halloween. Her feet were firmly planted in suburban reality and she had no reason to believe her life would be anything but that of a typical teenager. That is until tonight, when Cassie saw something that no human was ever supposed to see; in the blink of an eye she was thrown into the world of the Light and Dark Elves.
He comes from a realm where light and dark have fought for millennia. He is of a race known to humans only in myths and legends. The darkness that lives inside him is a part of both who and what he is and it makes him the most gifted spy and assassin in the history of his time. His life is not his own; he lives in the service of the Dark Elf King. He slays who he must, has mercy on no one, is relentless in his hunt, and never tires of seeing his prey fall. He is Triktapic, assassin, spy, most feared of the Dark Elves.

Now, in the midst of his King’s complicated plans to expand the Dark Elves’ holdings into the mortal realm, for the first time, Trik finds his loyalties divided. For no Elf, Dark or Light, can turn away from their Chosen.
Unbeknownst to the mortal realm, the battle between Light and Dark is being brought to their doorstep. The only one who can keep it at bay holds darkness in his heart like a lover, and the one who can sway that heart must decide if she can look beyond his black past, beyond his evil nature and see the man he is destined to be.
The question must be asked, does love really cover a multitude of sins? Can true love actually conquer all or will his darkness consume those around him until all that stands is an assassin with the blood of the mortal realm on his hands?

Goodreads Average Rating; 4.39*s
My Rating; 4.75*s
Would I recommend this book? Yes
Would I read anything else by this author? I've been meaning to read The Grey Wolves series for a while now, so yes.

My Review; This book had me in its grips from the get go. I didn't want to put it down.

I was slightly worried about this book. It's a book about elves. I just, I've never read an elf book before this. And I've not had a good time with most book involving creatures that are like elves.
Plus, Quinn is a well loved indie author. That worries me sometimes, because sometimes well loved indie authors don't live up to their reputation for me.
Quinn Loftis lives up to her reputation.

Not only did this book have me hooked, it was an easy read. Easy to get into. Easy to love. Which I needed because I'm having trouble getting into other books since I recently started reading the Black Dagger Brotherhood series.

I'll definitely be bumping The Grey Wolves series up my to-read list now!

I just...I don't know what to say. My words are not doing this book justice. I recommend this book. For sure. Whether you love elves, hate elves, want to try an elf book. Just...read this book.

Would I recommend this book? Probably, to some people.
Will I read anything else by this author? I'd give something else a chance, definitely.

My Review; Yes, this was another book that was originally a Twilight fan fic. Good, now we have that out of the way, let's get onto the review. Shall we?

So, as you can see by the start of my review, I have no problem whatsoever reading published books that were formally fan fiction. I know a lot of people have a problem with it because they feel as if the author is ripping off the original author's story, but I don't mind it because usually the story is entirely different than that of the original book.

This book, I felt that it did have a fan fiction feel to it. I could kind of tell who characters were based on. Well, it did at first anyway, because as the story went on I found myself forgetting those similarities.

I was quite unsure about this book when I first started reading, but it really turned out to be quite a good story with a really, really shocking ending.

This book is an emotional roller-coaster. That's for sure.
I just wanted to pick up some of the characters and hug them. Can I?

If you have no problem with reading published works that were previously fan fiction, then I think you should give this book a try.

"A Brand New Ending" Playlist;

As many authors and readers know, music is a large part of the writing process. Songs bring up emotions and were very much behind the inspiration in almost every scene in ABNE.
Here is a list of the ones I mostly had on repeat throughout the whole adventure. Some of these songs had direct influence on what happened in a scene while some other created happy, sadness, etc. inside me.

1. "Golden Gate Jumpers" by Cold War Kids
2. "What Lies Beneath" by Breaking Benjamin
3. "Little Lion Man" by Mumford and Sons
4. "Fix Me" by 10 Years
5. "Dear Agony" by Breaking Benjamin
6. "Running" by Rebelution
7. "Save Me" by Shinedown
8. "Reap" by the Red Jumpsuit Apparatus
9. "C'est La Vie" by Protest The Hero
10. "Never Too Late" by Three Days Grace
11. "For You" by Staind
12. "Last To Know" by Three Days Grace
13. "Savior" by Breaking Benjamin
14. "No One's Gonna Love You" by Band of Horses
15. "Right Here Waiting" by Staind
16. "Your Guardian Angel" by Red Jumpsuit Apparatus

With A Kiss by Stephine Fowers - Blog Tour Review

Note; This book is $0.99 for a limited time on Amazon! I'd definitely recommend it, so snap up your copy while it's cheap!
Extra note; There are some giveaways just after the review and purchase links. Just before the info about book two and three. Don't miss out on those!

BOOK 1:

Title; With A Kiss
Author; Stephanie Fowers
Series: Twisted Tales, #1
Source; Xpresso book tours
Format; Kindle
Publisher; Triad Media and Entertainment
Publication Date: April 2013
Genre: YA Paranormal (Faeries)

Description; There are seven rules of the faery kingdom that Halley Starr must never break:

    1. No trespassing sacred faery territory
    2. Don't ever say thank you
    3. Using a faery’s given name is a no-no
    4. Never break a promise to a faery
    5. Faery music is forbidden
    6. Resist all faery food
    7. And never, never fall in love with a faery

But Halley is cursed. Yeah. No joke. She can barely survive Omak High with that shard of ice in her heart. How could she possibly be a proper godmother and stop Rumpelstiltskin from taking the heir of the faery kingdom? And let’s be honest, there is no way she’ll go with Goldilocks (some hot faery guy) who won’t bother telling Halley his name or that she looks like she’s talking to herself when he’s around. Not a chance.

And really, who can blame her?

If Halley wants her heart back again, she can’t worry about the rules…

Goodreads Average Rating; 4.00*s
My Rating; 4.75*s to 5*s
Would I recommend this book? You betcha.
Will I read anything else by this author? Are you kidding? I'm already reading the sequel!

My Review; I've had some bad experiences with faery books in the past. They never seemed to live up to my expectations...so, when I picked up With A Kiss I was...unsure.
All of my doubts about fae books have gone out of the window.

I was so wrong to be worried!

I could not put this book down! And the further into the book I got, well, the harder it became to put the book down!

I had a lot of theories about what was going to happen, and what was happening. (Those fae can be cryptic with their riddles and spells and such!)
Some of these theories were proven correct, but there was so much that I didn't guess as well!

If you like faery books, or fairy/faery tales, or if you've had a bad experience with YA fae books, then you have to give this book a try!

I love this book. I love the characters, oh, how I love the characters. Hobs. Babs. Halley. Even Bugul!
I altogether love this book.

If I were to pick one problem with it...then I'd say that maybe Halley accepted everything...a little too quickly for it to be realistic, but that does not stop me from loving everything about this book in anyway!

 As the Sun Sets
Stephanie Fowers
Series: Twisted Tales, #3
Publication: April 2013
Genre: YA Paranormal (Faeries)

Oh yeah, A LOT of trouble! Daphne Starr pricks her finger on a spindle and it awakens the power that was always within her. That’s a big time no no! Now Rumpelstiltskin and some evil queen are after her. Even more annoying, the biggest player at Omak High is a shapeshifter and he goes beast on her, dragging her into a beanstalk and getting them stuck in a time-warp. He won’t stop asking her to marry him to get to her powers. I mean, give up already! Sure, it’s cool when she scores matching boots with the weirdo cat, and some cute faery guy accidentally tags along for the ride, but…

    Enough is enough already!

Halley and Bridgette had better get her out of this—especially since she only has until the battery runs out of her cell phone before she loses…to a beast.

Her Husband's Lover by Madelynne Ellis

18+ only, contain sexual situations... A lot of them. Also contain M/M, so if you don't like that then don't read this book.

Title; Her Husband's Lover
Author; Madelynne Ellis
Series; Georgian Rakehells, book five
Source; NetGalley, in exchange for an honest review
Format; Kindle
Publisher; HarperCollins UK, Avon
Publication Date; March 27th 2013
Description; In the Heat of Passion, No One Remains a Gentleman.

Darleston was beautiful. Not in a dandified fashionable sort of way, but in a beastly way… Any woman with a modicum of sense would be a fool to fall for him.

Emma Langley abhors physical contact, consequential she's shocked when she realizes she attracted to one of her father's guests. Robert, Lord Darleston is like no other man she's ever met. He's flamboyant, charming and terrifies her as much as he arouses her. Nor is Emma the only person caught under his spell...

Forced into an arranged marriage to avoid exposure as a sodomite, Robert Darleston has a reputation as a rakehell and a voluptuary. His wife is a bitter, scheming harpy, whose rumor-mongering has already driven him from London into the heart of the English countryside. Here, fate unexpectedly reunites Darleston with his former lover, Lyle Langley. Torn apart by the intervention of their families, the primary barrier to their reunion is now Emma, Lyle's wife, a woman Darleston is fascinated by and has no wish to disrespect. All seems hopeless, that is, until Lyle admits that Emma is frigid and thier marriage unconsummated.

Darleston proposes a plan... If he can just win Emma over, then maybe they can find happiness as a threesome. Old ghosts, a jealous wife, and an outraged father stand in his way.
Goodreads Average Rating; 4.50*s
My Rating; 4.25*s
Would I recommend this book? Yes, to those who have read the rest of the series.
Will I read anything else by this author? Yes, I would like to read more by Madelynne Ellis.

My Review; When I started this book I had no idea that it was part of a series. It is actually the fifth in a series.
Now that I do know though I cannot wait to get the rest of the series! I also can't help but feel that I would have liked this book so much more if I had known that it was part of a series and if I had read the rest of the series first.

Let's start with what I disliked.
Well, Lady Darleston was far too melodramatic, I hated her, but I also hate how she was treated. Then again, this was 1801... I hate everything to do with Lady Darelston, but I guess you're supposed to. I feel that if I had read the rest of the series I may have understood the way she was treated.

I don't think anything else really stuck out to me. To dislike.

What I liked.
There was a lot I liked. Lord Darleston, I loved him, he was just...a great character that I would have loved more if I knew more about him. (Again, I need to read the rest of this series!)
Emma. Oh, poor Emma. I love her character and everything that happens in the end.
Whilst I did love Lyle...I just didn't love him as much as the others.

The relationship between all of these character... I really loved the relationship between them all. Although...I don't think we know a lot about the character (probably need to read the rest of the series) and it did feel a little fast...

This book was only my second historical romance, ever. But, because of this book, I will be picking up more!

I'd recommend this book to those who have read the rest of the series. It probably can stand alone, but I feel like you'd be able to appreciate the book more if you've read the rest of the series.

Look for Under Mr. Nolan's Bed: GRACE, the final instalment in the trilogy coming April 2013!

Goodreads Average Rating; 4.26*s
My Rating; 5*s
Would I recommend this book? Yes, but only if you have read the first book in the series.
Would I read anything else by this author? Well, she's not on my auto-buy-author list for nothing!

My Review; This book, for me, proved that Selena Kitt is more that just an erotica writer.

I always knew that Selena Kitt could write a story that was about more than the sex, but this book, it just proved it to me. Probably because there was less sex...

This book...wow.

How could...what...but...no. That's how I feel about this book and a few of its events.

Some things made me joyous, but they were also bitter sweet. Most things made me sad.

I was predicting a little bit of what happened in the beginning, but I was expecting nothing else. I mean...this book. I really love this book, but it has made me so sad.
Also, I cannot wait for the last book. I know it comes out later this month, but does anybody know the specific date because I want it as soon as I can get my hands on it!

It was almost guaranteed that I would I love this book. I have loved most of Selena Kitt's works, well the ones I have have read. I have also loved all of the versions of Under Mr Nolan's Bed that I've read, even if some were a little shocking. (I still have to read Plaid Skirt Confessions, I think that's what it's called...)
I have wanted a sequel to the first book for so long. Or it feels like so long, but really I only found out this was originally going to be a trilogy a few months ago. Even then I only stumbled upon it again accidentally.
It's only because Selena Kitt is on my auto-buy-authors list that I found out about this series again, and oh my, am I glad I did!

So guys, I know I was supposed to be on a book buying ban, and it is in full force now, after I purchased this book, but, yes, I did break the book buying ban for this book. I just couldn't help myself.
Can you really blame me?

All right. I'm rambling, and not so much about the book. I should stop that.

Okay, so if you haven't read the first book in this series, Temptation, then what are you waiting for! You need to buy a copy ASAP.
And, if you've read the first book but are unsure about buying the sequel, maybe because of that ending? You need not worry, because I promise you that this book is worth your time.

So, I wasn't around in the '50s, heck, I wasn't around in the '80s, let alone the '50s, but this book, this series, I feel like it takes me back to that time. How things were much more difficult for women. And all sorts of people.
It's so sad some of the things that happen, just because men had more power. There are certainly a few characters I would love to punch in the face. Joan... Oh, I hated her the most. Can I just wring my hand around her neck? Please?

We see that characters develop a lot more in this book too. We find out much more about them. And, that just made me love them more and made me feel for them more.

There are many intriguing things going on too. So much is happening and yet...there's so much more we need to find out, which is why I cannot wait for that last book. I may just have to rock back and forth staring at a wall until I get it. I'll be chanting "I need the book now. I need the book now." until it goes live!

Selena Kitt, I'm just, I'm going to have to applaud your work once again. Books like these are why you are on my auto-by-author and favourite-author lists on Goodreads.

P.S. Please release the next book ASAP so I don't go crazy... Although I have to wait until I get paid, so release on the day I get paid... That'll be perfect.

Ignore that last bit. I can go crazy over books and things occasionally. (All the time... I can just hide it better most of the time...)

Authors like Selena Kitt are why people break their personal book buying bans.
If you are ever going to read a Selena Kitt book, or just one of her series. Pick this series, pick Temptation up. Maybe you'll come to love Selena Kitt just as much as I do. (see above review for proof of this love.)
